The Kiwanis Club of Cicero invites you to participate in a patriotic community service program called “Avenue of Flags,” an initiative that combines community pride with our mission to support children. Through this program, residents and businesses can sponsor American flags that will be placed in front of their home or business on each of 5 national holidays:
- Memorial Day
- Flag Day
- July 4th
- Patriot Day (9/11)
- Veteran’s Day
Each flag sponsored helps promote programs that change the lives of children throughout our communities. Funds raised will support vital programs that provide educational resources, mentorship, and opportunities for local youth.
Proudly show your patriotism and support the children of our communities! Join the Kiwanis Club of Cicero’s Avenue of Flags Program and help us support the children of our community!
Frequently Asked Questions
Where Will My Flag Be Placed?
The flag will be placed in the yard approximately 12” from the sidewalk or street at a place of your choosing. If there is no yard, a flagpole mount can be installed on the building.
*You will need to call 811 and have a utility crew mark the locations of any underground lines, prior to flag installation. If your yard is not marked, we will not install the sleeve.
How Will The Flagpole Be Installed?
Poles installed in the yard require a sleeve to be buried approximately one foot deep in the yard. Building mounted poles require the installation of a bracket to be mounted on the building. Both of these items remain in place as long as you are enrolled in the program. A paint mark will be placed on the pavement to assist in locating the sleeve during flag placement.
Who Will Install and Remove My Flag?
The flags will be installed and retrieved by members of the Kiwanis Club of Cicero.
Will My Yard Be Disturbed To Install My Flagpole?
No. We will simply drive the sleeve into the ground and a small paint mark will be placed on the street identifying the location.
Will The Sleeve Interfere With Mowing My Yard?
No. It will be placed flush with the ground, and a yellow cap will be placed in the sleeve to help us locate it the next time we install flags.
When Are The Flags Installed/Picked Up?
It depends upon the holiday and weather. But typically, the flags are installed a few days before the holiday and removed a few days after.
Am I Responsible For Lost, Damaged, or Stolen Flags?
No, the flag will simply be replaced as long you are enrolled in the program.
Do I Have To Do Anything With The Flag?
Let us take care of everything! Simply enjoy displaying it and the patriotic and community spirit created by flying the flag. Once enrolled in the program, we will place the flag on each of the designated holidays and store it for you in between.
